1️⃣ Waking up before the rest of the house - o 1️⃣ Waking up before the rest of the house - okay this one I fall on and off of depending on if my son is letting me sleep πŸ˜… but I've found waking up before him and having time to make my morning coffee and just check in with myself does wonders for my mental health. 

I've never stuck to journaling and I think this simple practice of getting up first to a quiet house is the habit I've put in its place. So if you also can't keep consistent with journaling maybe try this and just set your alarm for even 15 minutes earlier. 

2️⃣ Citrus essential oils - the zesty citrus aromas are so energizing and uplifting for me when we start getting less sun. You can diffuse them, clean with them, use skincare with them infused in it.

Or if you don't have essential oils on hand try drinking hot lemon water in the mornings πŸ‹ 

3️⃣ Cold morning showers - I might lose some of y'all here and I get it. But hear me out .. my friend @mick_piotrowski got me into this. I don't typically do the entire cold shower thing unless I've already worked out for the day. 

Instead I splash ice cold water on my face to wake up. Getting up before the sun has always been hard for me but believe me the cold water will wake you up and make you feel so refreshed after. Not to mention there are links to skincare benefits too

These are just 3 of my favorites and I could go into so much more depth to spare you from reading 20 paragraphs I'll stop here 🀣 do you have any habits you start incorporating as the seasons change?

Fun fact: you can't make soap without lye and if someone tells you otherwise run in the other direction fast 🀣 the chemical reaction between lye (sodium hydroxide) and the oils is called saponification and it's what makes soap... soap.

But don't worry- no lye remains in the final product πŸ’•

Okay hear me out... we absolutely need to wear sun Okay hear me out... we absolutely need to wear sunscreen when we're going to be exposed to the sun for an extended period of time. 

BUT it's also my opinion that it's essential for us to get some healthy vitamin D exposure. A few quick reasons why I don't think it's actually necessary to wear sunscreen every single day. ⬇️

🌞 One very important factor to consider here is the type of sunscreen you're using. Most mainstream sunscreens on the market contain chemicals that absorb into the body. There are studies actually linking skin cancer to sunscreen application. 

Now there are also plenty of safe sunscreen options. Avoid aerosol sunscreen sprays at all costs - there's too many chemicals needed for that spray function. 

Instead reach for a mineral non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen.

🌀️ There are plenty of studies that show the benefits of healthy sun exposure for our mental, physical and emotional health. Our circadian rhythm is literally made to align with the sun.

Vitamin D deficiency affects our physical and mental well-being. Soaking up the sun rays in a responsible way can elevate your mood and increase those feel good endorphins. Not to mention how important getting out in the sun can be to get rid of the winter time blues. 

There are even studies linking vitamin D from safe sun exposure to reducing inflammation and controlling infections.

➑️ So what I'm saying is- 

Do we need sunscreen? Yes, absolutely. As far as the skin goes long sun exposure contributes to signs of aging, drying of skin, and a compromised skin barrier. Far more important than that it can cause serious health issues like cancer. 

But, do we need to wear sunscreen every day? In my opinion, no. On days we spend mostly indoors at work or running errands to the grocery store and bank... There's simply no need to totally cut out the small sun exposure you would get walking from your car to the building. 

And even a little vitamin D can go a long way for our well being πŸŒΏπŸ’• Okay let me hear it other skincare gurus ... Do you think I'm crazy?
